Comparison

Take a look at the overall composition of each student photo. Explain which photograph displays the strongest composition based on the terms that we discussed in class. If you were to pick your favorite between the two which would it be and why? If you were the artist, what would you do to improve either photo?

  1. i think the bottom photograph has better composition, because it has the spiral diagonal lines that lead your eyes around the page and its very focused. This photo of the shoes also demonstrates fill the frame. But personally i think it’s a little boring. I think she did have good composition and followed all the rules right. But i feel like the 'Open' picture can hold your interest longer. Even though it is not quite as strong in the since of the rule of thirds, or any other rules for photography. If i were the photographer, i would try to make the top photo more interesting by using rule of thirds or try to make some spiral lines or something to fill the frame more.

  2. Though both pictures I find to be very interesting, the bottom picture to me follows more of the rules of photography. The shoes represnt both good light and contrast as well as filling the frame and leading lines. The shoes are more well structured and gives you more of an idea of what you are looking at. Though I find the second picture to be more "structurally" correct, the first picture to me is much more eye catching and intresting. It has more going on and though it doesn't follow many of the rules of photography it does catch our intrest and make us look at the photo for a longer period of time than the second. If I were a photographer I would most likly choose the first one, because I tend to go with more an eye catching photo than a "correct" photo. It leaves more to the imagination and lets people make theories for themselves.

  3. I think that the bottom photograph is better because of the composition, and the lines that lead your eye across the photo. It uses the rule of thirds, it's in better focus, and it fills the frame more than the Open picture. Eve though the bottom picture follows more of the rules of photography, I think that the top picture is more contrasting and colorful, although it is in right in the middle. I think it could be improved if it were off to one side, rather than straight on. For the bottom photo, it would be improved if it was more colorful, or had more contrast.

  4. I think that they are both equally good and well thought out, but I would have to say the bottom is the stonger composition. It shows the comparison of the shoe and it relates really well. You can also see the light envolved and how the shaddows were made. Even though the bottom one has more comparison the top one catches my eye more. I think because it shows depth and it really just catches the eye. If I were the artist of the first photo I would work on taking something to compare that too. You could take like a new photo of a gas pump or find another one to compare the wear and tear.
