Comparison

Take a look at the overall composition of each student photo. Explain which photograph displays the strongest composition based on the terms that we discussed in class. If you were to pick your favorite between the two which would it be and why? If you were the artist, what would you do to improve either photo?
Photo II: For next Thursday

AP Students-
Desolation/Lonely/Singled out--Don't forget that I have changed the due date for the Desolation/Lonely/Singled Out photo assignment to Monday of next week. (Contact Sheet must be turned in for this assignment)

Pop-Up-Photo--Your concept assignment for Wednesday is to create a photo that literally pops out off the surface of the page. You will print 3 or 4 copies of one previous image. (They should probably be glued to a poster board surface to make it stiffer.) Then select areas to cut out and "pop-up" using foam core. (see my example in class)
Beauty in the Ordinary--Next Friday, you will turn in your assignment of Beauty in the Ordinary. You are an artist, so look for things the average person wouldn't necessary see. (Contact Sheet must be turned in for this assignment)

Blog Assignment (AP Photo & Photo II)
Respond to the following in the form of a comment to this post. 2-3 paragraphs
In Photography today, there are still photo classes teaching film, but many are switching to all digital. What are the possible reasons that High School and/or College photography classes would be making this switch? What are the pros of teaching film photograph? What are the cons? What are the pros of teaching digital? What are the cons?
Finally, in your opinion, which do you prefer; film or digital photography? Do you think that high school classes should teach one or the other? Could they integrate both? How so?

Extend-a-Photo (AP 2D Design)
For Wednesday, you will need to turn in an Extend-a-Photo. You should use one of your images from the Fill the Frame OR Abstract Photo Composition assignment to print out as a 5x7. You should then create a drawing or painting around the photo, extending the lines and shapes from your print. This should be an interesting composition. Be sure to see me for questions.
ABC Concept (Photo II)
Don't forget that Wednesday, your ABC scavenger hunt is due. Remember, you need to have 20 of the 26 letters in the alphabet "found" using your digital camera. You will use these letters to spell a 5 letter word that you will put together on a word document to turn in for your concept on Wednesday.
Also due Wednesday, your reading and questions on Steiglitz.

Welcome To AP Studio Art!
I'm so excited the new school year is starting. You are a very talented group of students and I can't wait to see what you come up with this year in AP Studio Art. This blog will be an important part of your weekly routine. I will post announcements, due dates and let you know about everything you need for the AP class. You will also be creating a blog that will be linked to this main site. It is a wonderful way to share your work with your classmates, friends, and family.
Your first blogging assignment will be to create your own blog site. I will be sharing with you in class how to go about this. You should have fun with this and make this site personal to you. You should take pictures of some of your summer work to share and post it on your personal blog as soon as possible.
Good luck to you all and get ready for a great year in AP!!
